Koorong warehouse assistant Sanjeev Roop with the 20,000 bibles collected from all Koorong stores for the Bibles for India project. The Bibles are packed on to pallets and are ready to be sent to STL OM India for distribution.
In 2007 we ran our first ever Mission Month project called 'Bibles for India'. The goal for this project was to ship as many Bibles as we could to India for distribution directly into the hands of the Indian people. It didn't matter how old the Bible was, which translation it was or even what condition it was in, our sole focus was to provide the WORD OF GOD to people who desperately needed to read about Jesus. Some of the Bibles were given to Indian Christians who didn't have their own copy, others were used as tools in teaching English and still others were given away to people who were exploring Christianity for the first time.
The response to the project was fantastic! We had numerous members of staff bringing in Bibles, local youth groups working together and collecting Bibles, large Churches encouraging their congregations to bring any old Bibles to Church so they could put them all together and bring them down in one trip, and of course we had thousands of individual Koorong customers making trips into our stores to drop off their Bibles. In fact, we ended up sending over 20,000 Bibles to India!
We were so blown away by the response that it made us begin thinking just how easy it is to impact people's lives when we work together. It only takes a small sacrifice from many people working together to make a huge difference and that is where the idea for this year's mission month, 'One Dollar.... One Cause' came from.
Thank you to everyone who was involved last year. Because of your help and God's provision thousands of Indian people's lives have been changed.
Mike's Story
Towards the end of last year I was lucky enough to be in India around the time the Bibles arrived. I was asked to talk to about 200 pastors and leaders about the project and 'what was inside the large container coming from Australia'. At the end of my very brief talk the 200 pastors and leaders all stood to their feet and gave 'us' (you and me) a standing ovation because of the generosity of the Australian people. The excitement and hope that this bought to the people in that room is something I will never forget. Without you it would not have been possible to achieve this kind of impact. Thank you once again for uniting as a nation and working with us to change lives right across this world.
God Bless,
Mike Gore
