In the Wilderness (Course Booklet) (York Courses Series)
John YoungBooklet 2001-12-01
A 5-session ecumenical COURSE for discussion groups - IDEAL FOR LENT or any time of year
Anyone who thinks Jesus wasn't seriously tempted hasn't understood the story of the temptations in the wilderness. Jesus' experience in that forty days involved him in being questioned (and questioning himself?) about his beliefs, his integrity and his motivation. The fact that he came out of the wilderness triumphant over the temptations doesn't mean that they weren't real, or that he didn't suffer while undergoing them.
We all have wilderness experiences in our lives - times when our very deepest convictions and confidence are tested, sometimes to breaking point. What are we to make of these challenges and how are we to meet them? In the Wilderness explores these issues for our world, for the Church, and at a personal level.
Suitable for everyone, In the Wilderness may be especially helpful for those facing serious challenges in their lives.
5 sessions:
- Jesus, Satan and the Angels
- The Wilderness Today
- The Church in the Wilderness
- Prayer, Meditation and Scripture
- Solitude, Friendship and Fellowship
The course booklet, written by Canon John Young, includes questions aimed at provoking wide-ranging discussion. Each group needs a copy of the course audio, plus a course booklet for each member. In addition many groups find the transcript, which cross-references to the tracks on the recorded material, invaluable.
