DARRELL WALTRIP started his career racing go-carts at age 12 and went on to enter his first stock car race just four years later. Although his premier NASCAR Winston Cup start came in 1972, he continued to earn a living as a short-track racer. In 1975 he became a full-time NASCAR Winston Cup competitor and in the 1980s earned the NASCAR Driver of the Decade award. Today, he holds 84 NASCAR Winston Cup victories and his name is known by racing amateurs and enthusiasts alike.
