Boff, a 68-year-old Catholic Liberation theologist was born in Concrdia, Santa Catarina, Brazil who entered the Franciscan Order in 1958 and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1964. Along with Gustavo Gutierrez he became a well known supporter of Liberation Theology. After clashes with the church he left the priesthood in 1992 but continued to practice the Catholic faith
