Faith in the Fire (Course Booklet) (York Courses Series)

John Young

Booklet 2000-12-01

**An ecumenical course for discussion groups in five sessions - ideal for Lent, yet not Lent-specific.

Comprising course booklet, audio and transcript**

There can't be many people whose faith hasn't been tested at some time in their lives. When things are going well our faith may remain untroubled, but what about when doubt or disaster strike? How does our faith stand up to that?

These are questions every Christian has to face at some time or another. Faith in the Fire takes these challenges seriously, examines the basis of our faith in the face of them, and makes some suggestions as to how we might prepare ourselves to withstand these onslaughts.

There's a great deal of encouragement to be found in this course as the facts are honestly faced. And for those who struggle, they'll find they are not alone.

5 sessions:

  1. Faith facing Facts
  2. Faith facing Doubt
  3. Faith facing Disaster
  4. Faith fuelling Prayer
  5. Faith fuelling Action

The course booklet, written by Canon John Young includes a good selection of questions at the end of each of the five sessions, designed to stimulate wide-ranging discussion. Each group needs 1 copy of the course audio and group members will benefit from having their own personal copy of the course booklet. In addition many groups find the transcript, which sets out the words as spoken on the recorded material, invaluable.

The participants on the course audio are: Steve Chalke, Rabbi Lionel Blue, Leslie Griffiths and Ann Widdecombe MP. Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord George Carey introduces the course and Dr David Hope provides the Closing Reflections.
