In this book Colin Gunton develops themes he first introduced in The Promise of Trinitarian Theology in 1992, a book which continues to be widely-read and used as a textbook in Christian doctrine throughout the world. Each essay addresses a topic of central importance in Trinitarian theology, ranging from the knowledge of God to the Christian sacraments. Together they reflect in particular on an increasing interest in the doctrine of the Holy Spirit and its bearing on the structure of the doctrine of the Trinity and its various sub-themes of Christology and soteriology.
-Publisher

In this book one of the leading and most popular theologians of our time addresses topics of central importance in Trinitarian theology, ranging from the knowledge of God to the Christian sacraments.
-Publisher

In Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Colin Gunton uses each chapter to address a topic of central importance within trinitarian theology, thus leading the reader towards a deeper appreciation of the beauty and structure of trinitarian doctrine. Throughout this discussion Christology, soteriology, metaphors of atonement and sacrifice and other themes characteristic of his previous work are all explored with a view to increasing understanding and delight. Made up almost entirely of previously unpublished material compiled shortly before Professor Gunton's death, this is a wide-ranging, vigorously argued collection. Typically of his writing, it encompasses both practical and theoretical aspects of this central Christian tenet. Book jacket.
