It was common practice in Puritan churches (particularly in New England) to preach to the young people of the church and the town on a regular basis. It is not surprising to find, then, that the average age of conversion in Puritan England and New England was very early--in many cases between six and eight. Here are some of the greatest of those sermons by eminent preachers of the 17th and 18th centuries, including Increase Mather, Cotton Mather, Charles Chauncy, and Jonathan Edwards.

It was a common practice in the Puritan churches (particularly in New England) to preach to the young people of the church and the town on a regular basis. Some churches took every eighth Sunday and devoted it to preaching to the souls of their young people. It is not surprising to find, then, that the average age of conversion in Puritan England and New England was 6, where in our day it is in the late teens. ^^Here are some sermons to young people by some eminent preachers of the 17th and 18th centuries. Among those venerable gospel preachers here are Increase Mather, Cotton Mather, Charles Chauncy, and Jonathan Edwards. Perhaps the most notable thing delivered here is that the best way for young people to determine their relationships to God is to have them examine their relationships to their parents. ^
