He is recognized as a Fellow in Thanatology by the Association for Death Education and Counseling and has also received the Distinguished Service Award from ADEC. ý Smith has earned a doctorate from Asbury Theological Seminary and the EdS. from Vanderbilt. He has facilitated Grief Gatherings, storytelling groups for grievers, at Saint Luke's Hospital for 16 years.ý
