When Hildegard was young, everywhere she went she saw colors and swirls, pictures, and designs. Music filled her soul and she was flooded with ideas - so many that she thought her mind would explode. Then one day it all stopped. In this beautiful book children will join Hildegard on her journey toward devotion to God, service to others, and toward a blessed and solitary life filled with artistic expression.
Megan Hoyt is a freelance writer with credits in television, web, and print as well as a veteran home educator whose children have fallen victim to her adoration of classical music and all things lovely and beautiful, most especially opera and Medieval music. She spends her days teaching composer study, picture study, Shakespeare, poetry, creative writing, and more to homeschooled high school students, but her evenings are occupied by knights and damsels and stories of the great men and women of the past. Megan holds a bachelors degree in English and History from Southern Methodist University and a masters in Theology from Regent University. She is a certified teacher, whose interests range from Medieval and Renaissance History to Theology to 19th century children's literature.
Hildegard's Gift represents the culmination of Megan's lifelong love affair with the arts and her increasing curiosity about how God influences the artist. Megan's fondness for Hildegard grew out of her father's correspondence with Sister Josephine and the Carmelite nuns in Pennsylvania, who prayed faithfully for Megan during a difficult and prolonged childhood illness -- prayers for which she is eternally grateful.
Megan Hoyt lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband of 25 years, their teenaged son (three other children have grown and flown), three dogs, and a parrot. In her spare time, she likes to read, ride horses, ice skate, and write stories for children.
