When Valley Falls is plagued with young vandals and a few violent incidents, Doc Jones and the mayor ask Chip for help. His solution: a summer sports program that should inspire youth to do something worthwhile for the town in which they live.
-Publisher

Doc Jones and the mayor of Valley Falls have called Chip home to ask for his help. What had begun as a few isolated incidents--kids beaten up, property damaged--is developing, as summer starts, into a full-scale crisis. Chip's solution is a summer sports program that should serve as a model for any young group with aspirations to do something worthwhile for the town in which they live. Then comes the big break--the owner of an abandoned fairgrounds donates it to Chip's summer program. Chip's team, the Colts, has a bitter rival in a summer sports camp team and plays them for the championship on the opening day of the magnificently restored fairgrounds--all of it refurbished by the kids themselves.
-Publisher

Home for the summer, college athlete Chip Hilton hopes to occupy the restless and destructive young people of the town by involving them in a sports program, with an emphasis on baseball.
