Trent C. Butler has a Ph.D. in biblical studies and linguistics from Vanderbilt University, has done further study at Heidelberg and Zurich, and has participated in the excavation of Beersheba. He served ten years on the faculty of the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Rschilkon, Switzerland, and for twenty-two years as editor and editorial director for Holman Bible Publishers. Currently, he is a retired free-lance editor.
He has written Joshua (Word Biblical Commentary), the Layman's Bible Book Commentary on Isaiah, Isaiah and on Hosea through Micah (Holman Old Testament Commentaries), and Luke (Holman New Testament Commentary). He is the editor of the Holman Bible Dictionary, the Holman Bible Atlas, the Experiencing God Bible, the Disciple's Study Bible, and many other Holman products. He served on the editorial committee for the Holman Christian Standard Bible translation. He has published articles in many journals including Journal for the Study of the Old Testament, Vetus Testamentum, Lexington Theological Quarterly, and Biblical Illustrator.
