"This book is a massive achievement: its length, its erudition, its fresh insights on almost every page and, above all, its attempt to re-orient our reading of the Synoptic Gospels on Jesus. Make no mistake, this is the most improtant contribution to Jesus studies for some time and every future writer will have to deal with it no matter how much they might disagree with its proposals."
