This book is the first of two volumes compiled from a series of 40 sermons on Hebrews that Tozer preached shortly before his death in 1963. These 12 chapters are a thorough examination and exploration of the Scriptures as the revealed and inspired Word of God.^
The book, Jesus, Our Man in Glory, represents a thorough and complete look by A.W. Tozer at the first half of the book of Hebrews. A.W. Tozer preached these messages as part of a 40 sermon series shortly before his death. In Jesus, Our Man in Glory, we see how Tozer brings to life from Hebrews, what he strongly objected to as "pretty dull material" from one friend's statement to him. These first twelve messages show how Christ is glorified and exemplified in all things and now sits at the right hand of His Father. Each chapter is about glory and role of Jesus in the book of Hebrews as we see in this listing of the chapters:
1. Jesus, Our Man in Glory
2. Jesus, God's Final Revelation
3. Jesus, Heir of All Things
4. Jesus, God's Express Image
5. Jesus, Lord of the Angels
6. Jesus, Standard of Righteousness
7. Jesus, the Eternal Word
8. Jesus, Keeper of God's Promises
9. Jesus, Like Unto Melchizedek
10. Jesus, One Face of One God
11. Jesus, Mediator of the New Will
12. Jesus, Fulfillment of the Shadow
Tozer told his congregation in Chicago before preaching this series that he would show the eternal glories of Jesus Christ, the Son of God in every message and after reading this book and its follow up volume, Jesus, Author of Our Faith, I believe you will agree, A. W. Tozer accomplished what he set out to prove. Hebrews is not a dull book after all but full of eternal truths and glorified examples.
A. W. Tozer died in 1963, but his life and spiritual legacy continue to draw many into a deeper knowledge of God. During his lifetime, Tozer pastored several Christian and Missionary Alliance churches. Missions and the deeper life in Christ were his primary focus. He also served as editor of the Alliance Life. Tozer authored more than 40 books, (at least two of which are considered classics: The Pursuit of God and Knowledge of the Holy), a tremendous accomplishment for a man who never received a formal theological education. The presence of God was his classroom, his notebooks and tools consisted of prayer, God's Word, and the writings of early Christians and theologians, the Puritans, and great men of faith. - Publisher.
