Bernard Cottret, professeur a l'Universite de Versailles-Saint-Quentin, est membre senior de l'Institut Universitaire de France, ou il occupe la chaire de civilisation des Iles britanniques et de l'Amerique coloniale. Il est l'auteur de nombreux livres sur la Grande-Bretagne, dont Cromwell (Fayard, 1992), "Henri" VIII (Payot, 1999), ou "Histoire de l'Angleterre" (Tallandier, 2007).
