Drunk, depressed, and ready to end his life, Mel Trotter stumbled into Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago. There he accepted Christ as his Savior, and his life was changed forever. Before long he was back on skid row, this time sharing the good news of salvation with others. He went on to establish a rescue mission in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and to guide a chain of missions from Boston to San Francisco. In all he founded more than sixty missions in the United States. "When my mother lay dying," Mel Trotter said, "She told me, 'You win all the souls you can to Jesus, and I will see you over there." He was faithful to his mother's wish. He won all the souls he could and, in doing so, changed the face of inter-city rescue missions.
