Mellie and Hansie Learn the Catechsim

Robbie Herrgott

Paperback 2019-12-01

Publisher Description

How to use this bookImagine yourself living a on a Scottish Island in the 17th century. The duty and habit of the all the families of the villages was this: each day, either morning or evening, the father would read the Bible to his children and give his children a Catechism question. How often? Each day! Strangely, some of these fathers did not even attend church regularly, but saw it as their duty to make sure their children understood the Christian faith. This book invites all parents to rekindle the flame of Catechism. Jesus prayed, "Sanctify them in the truth, your word is truth" (John 17:17). If you are unsure about how to go about this, I suggest one simple method. After your evening dinner, get out the Catechism and ask the first question. Tell the children the correct answer and give support to this answer by reading out the accompanying Bible verse. The next day, ask the same question, and encourage your children as they give the correct answer. Once your children know the answer, you can move onto the next catechism question. Only introduce one new question at a time, but you can have a revision time to go over questions that have already been memorised. Once you finished the 40 questions, you can start again at number one, and this time, challenge the children to memorise the Bible verses also.
