The Mthodists tells the story of Methodism in New South Wales from the establishment of the first class meetings in the colony until the inauguration of the Uniting Church. It is not merely a chronicle of events, but seeks to interpret the broad sweep of Methodist history in the state and to illuminate the great themes raised by the life of the Church* why did Methodism experience so many difficulties during its early years in the colony? Why was it able to spread so rapidly in the second half of the 19th century? Who were the Methodists?;As well as contributing to the social and religious history of Australia, this work should be of interest to those members of the Uniting Church, and of other Christian denominations, who seek to enlarge their own self-understanding. It aims to give the Methodists a place in Australian history.
