In an age where edginess, cleverness, and the ability to shock often count more than substance, the writer of these stories and interspersed poems offers a break from all the noise. Many of her stories are set in England, where she lived for many years.

In an age where cleverness often counts more than substance, Jane Tyson Clement's stories offer a break from all the noise. Written with a measured beauty that recall Tolstoy and Tolkien, they rely less on plot devices than on allegorical symbols and the evocation of moods. There is nothing heavy or stilted about these tales. But there is the thrill of expectancy, a sense that something new is on the way, and the belief that the Someone for whom humanity longs and waits is seeking us, just as we seek Him.

Bay Head's windswept shore drew Jane back year after year: "There was something eternal about it that was always a rock and an anchor for me." Jane graduated from Smith College in 1939. Still, she yearned to move beyond the "frivolous, self-centered side of my nature...and to do something - anything - abou
