"Human beings are storytellers. We love to tell them, & we love to hear them," writes Dr. Michael Lodahl in THE STORY OF GOD. Drawing from Scripture, everyday experience, & contemporary theological reflection, Lodahl offers a fresh, accessible, compelling introduction to theology with several important & unique contributions. Of particular note, this is the first text to examine & formulate Wesleyan theology in light of NARRATIVE THEOLOGY. Narrative theology reflects a style of religious thinking that places less stress on abstract ideas & propositions & gives much greater attention to the flesh-&-blood stories of the Bible for UNDERSTANDING & APPROPRIATING the Christian faith. Thus, THE STORY OF GOD breaks through the traditional distinction between biblical & theological studies. Theology is used to unravel & make sense of the biblical story, to "tell the story" afresh in a new age. "I believe Mike Lodahl's new book, THE STORY OF GOD, will take its place as the premier expression of Wesleyan theology for decades to come. What a masterpiece! Every pastor & reflective layman ought to read it," says Dr. C. S. Cowles, Professor of Preaching & Biblical Literature of Northwest Nazarene College. MAJOR SECTIONS: How God's Story Gets Told; Foundational Doctrine/The Beginning of God's Story; The Doctrine of Creation/The Tragedy of God's Story; The Doctrine of Sin/The Jewish People in God's Story; The Doctrine of Covenants/A New Twist in God's Story; The Doctrine of Christ/Living in God's Story; The Doctrine of the Church/The End of God's Story; The Doctrine of Last Things. Michael Lodahl, Ph.D., is professor of theology at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho. His articles have been published in the Wesleyan Theological Journal, Asbury Theological Journal, Christian Scholar's Review, & Journal of Ecumenical Studies. This is his second book. He is a member of the Wesleyan Theological Society, the American Academy of Religion, & the Association for Religious & Intellectual Life.
