"Ravi Zacharias gives a powerful defense of how Jesus Christ brings meaning and hope to an individual life."
- Billy Graham

For a true understanding of who Jesus was, there is only one source to go to: The Bible. Bestselling author Ravi Zacharias investigates recent attempts to reinvent and reinterpret Jesus Christ through the lens of popular culture. None of these interpretations - which have been influenced by New Age philosophers like Deepak Chopra, to popular novelists^like Dan Brown, to media personalities like Oprah Winfrey - pays heed to the biblical^account of Jesus' life.

In WHY JESUS?, Zacharias analyzes the "spiritual" movements of the past 40 years, debunking their claims and returning the reader to the biblical definition of Jesus' person, work and teaching. Focusing on Christianity's centrally important tenet - the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ - Zacharias makes a passionate, imaginative, and convincing case that the biblical Jesus is the true Jesus.

- Publisher

The author believes that over the past forty years movements like New Age spirituality and society's obsession with human potential have combined like a "perfect storm" to redefine for popular culture what has been for centuries the classic biblical definition of the person, work, and teaching of Jesus Christ.

In WHY JESUS?, Ravi Zacharias looks at the impact of this "storm" by discussing the 60s-70s "Age of Aquarius," actor Shirley MacLaine's book and TV series Out On a Limb, author James Redfield (The Celestine Prophecy), Rhonda Byrne (The Secret), Dan Brown (The Da Vinci Code), and other books by Eckart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, the Dali Lama, and Marianne Williamson. Special attention will be given to the influence of Oprah Winfrey's media platform in reshaping society by introducing and promoting certain books and authors.

Major new age and human potential tenets will be discussed like: the belief that we are all gods and have to discover our divinity; Jesus was only a good teacher; Christianity is but one among many ways to eternal life; reincarnation is real; Jesus was married; truth is relative; there is no sin; and perfection is possible.

The truth of and the arguments for the bodily resurrection of Jesus will be presented as the most important argument for the exclusive claims about Jesus and Christianity.

Ravi Zacharias

Frederick Anthony Ravi Kumar Zacharias was born into a nominally Christian (Anglican) Indian family in Madras in 1946, and grew up in Delhi. He was an atheist in his youth, but had a conversion experience after reading John 14:19 while recovering from a suicide attempt at age 17. Ravi emigrated with his family to Canada in 1966. He earned his M.Div. degree from Trinity International University, Deerfield, Illinois, in 1972.

Since 1971, when he first ministered to GIs and POWs in Vietnam, Ravi has spoken all over the world in great halls and universities including Harvard, Princeton, and Oxford.

He is listed as a distinguished lecturer with the Staley Foundation and has appeared on CNN and other international broadcasts.

The author of numerous books, he powerfully mixes biblical teaching and Christian apologetics. His weekly radio program, Let My People Think, is broadcast over 1,500 stations worldwide, and his weekday program, Just Thinking, began airing in November 2004. He is president of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries.

Some of his publications include Beyond Opinion: Living the Faith We Defend; The End of Reason; Walking from East to West; The Grand Weaver; Cries of The Heart; Recapture the Wonder: Experiencing God's Amazing Promise of Childlike Joy, and Jesus Among Other Gods: The Absolute Claims of the Christian Message.

Ravi has been married to his wife Margie since 1972, and they have three adult children.
