John Painter, PhD, FAHA, is the foundation professor of theology at Charles Sturt University, Canberra, Australia. He has published over one hundred chapters in academic books and journal articles. His previous books include John: Witness and Theologian, Reading John's Gospel Today, The Quest for the Messiah, Mark's Gospel: Worlds in Conflict, Theology as Hermeneutics: Rudolf Bultmann's Interpretation of the History of Jesus, and Just James: The Brother of Jesus in History and Tradition.
R. Alan Culpepper (PhD., Duke University) is the founding dean of the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia. Before coming to Mercer, He taught New Testament at Southern Baptist Theological seminary and at Baylor University. He has written extensively about the Gospels, and some of his works include The Johannine School; Anatomy of the Fourth Gospel; John the Son of Zebedee: The Life of a Legend; "The Gospel of Luke," in the New Interpreter's Bible series; and The Gospel and Letters of John. He is the New Testament general editor of the Smyth & Helwys Bible Commentary series to which he has contributed the volme on The Gospel of Mark.
