Impatient to meet her intended groom and help him grow his general store, mail-order bride Eliza Cantrell sets out on her travels a week early. But her plan goes sadly awry when her train is held up by robbers who steal her dowry and Axel, her groom-to-be, isn't even in town when she finally arrives.

Axel's business partner, William Stanton, has no head for business and would much rather be a doctor. When his friend's mail-order bride arrives in town with no money and no groom in sight, he feels responsible and lets her help around the store--where she quickly proves she's much more adept at business than he ever will be.

The sparks that fly between Will and Eliza as they work together in close quarters are hard to ignore, but Eliza is meant for Axel and a future with the store, while Will is biding his time until he can afford medical school. However, their troubles are far from over when Axel finally returns, and soon both Will and Eliza must decide what they're willing to sacrifice to chase their dreams--or if God has a new dream in store for them both.

Mail Order Bride
2 stars By Hannah, Jan 28 2016
This was a sweet, if not thoroughly captivating, love story. I had a little trouble keeping track of all the different minor characters at points but it didn't detract too much from the story. A good reminder of the value of people versus things and how lifelong dreams can change - and that's okay.

Enjoyable
3 stars By Jacqui, Jan 06 2016
This is primarily a story about Eliza a mail order bride with a strong character and work ethic and Will a part store owner who would rather be a doctor. Eliza is coming to the town to marry Will's partner. Although this was an enjoyable story to read with a few surprising gems of encouragement from spiritual teaching that comes through, I found it slow moving and a bit too predictable.

Good, but I preferred the first book
4 stars By Iola, Sep 03 2014
Eliza Cantrell is a mail-order bride on her way to Salt Flatts, Kansas, in 1881, when her train is stopped by robbers, who steal all her savings and leave her needing stiches on her face. Her fiance, Axel Langston, isn't in town, but his business partner, Will Stanton, is at the store. Will's dream is to become a doctor, but he's stuck in Salt Flatts as co-owner of the store until he can save enough money for medical school.

Will doctors Eliza's face, and finds himself inconveniently attracted to his partner's fiance, even though she does keep wanting to make changes in his store. Eliza fights her attraction to Will, while wondering when Axel will get home ... Southey can work together in the store and make the reader changes that will turn the store around financially.

This is the third of Melissa Jagear's Salt Flatts mail-order bride novels, and while the characters were excellent, and it was a good combination of Western romance and Christian principles, I didn't enjoy the actual story as much. Parts of the story felt contrived, and I wasn't convinced by the decision Eliza made towards the end of the story - I thought there could have been a better solution. However, it's still an enjoyable read.
