What keeps us from having open and honest conversations about complex and controversial issues? The silence in the pews about these matters can be deafening. A Charitable Discourse insightfully explores why this happens, looking closely at the ways people avoid and prevent authentic dialog, from labeling and grandstanding to religious abuse. Seven controversial issues are discussed with understanding, sincerity, and compassion. This Small Group DVD includes 6 videos designed for small groups to discuss the issues that can often divide the church. Meet the Author

Dan Boone

DAN BOONE is a popular speaker and a mentor to young preachers. From his first pastorate of a small rural church in New Salem, Mississippi, to his last pastoral assignment as pastor of a large college church near Chicago, Boone has loved doing the work of preaching. In Preaching the Story That Shapes Us, he shares the process by which sermons are formed for today's congregation. This process pays careful attention to the text, the congregation, and the world into which the sermon goes. Boone lives in Nashville, with his wife, Denise, where he serves as president of Trevecca Nazarene University
