Enjoyable escapism
4 stars By sarah, May 25 2014
This story centres around three young immigrants and their families in the land of America in 1918. Each of the girls lead very different lives and have different backgrounds. However, despite their differences their lives become entwined as they work together in a dressmakers shop.

The American revolution is an interesting backdrop for the stories of the three women. The author assumes a narrative alongside the characters stories. This assists the reader to gain additional insight into their thoughts and motives for actions, helping mould their individual stories into one larger perspective.

I enjoyed the humorous antics of the warring Italian families which helped keep a light-hearted feel despite the seriousness of the time in which the novel was set. Siri Mitchell is a gifted author, and I look forward to her next novel.

An interesting book
5 stars By Sharyn, Jan 01 2014
I really enjoyed this story. It had some very interesting information about the Italian immigrants in Boston during WW1. The story held your interest and it was a very good read. I got this on special but is worth the listed price now. If you want to learn history while enjoying a good story this is a book for you
