Sparkling Regency Romance from a Captivating New Voice

Lady Miranda Hawthorne acts every inch the lady, but inside she longs to be bold and carefree. Entering her fourth Season and approaching spinsterhood in the eyes of society, she pours her innermost feelings out not in a diary but in letters to her brother's old school friend, a duke--with no intention of ever sending these private thoughts to a man she's heard stories about but never met. Meanwhile, she also finds herself intrigued by Marlow, her brother's new valet, and although she may wish to break free of the strictures that bind her, falling in love with a servant is more of a rebellion than she planned.

When Marlow accidentally discovers and mails one of the letters to her unwitting confidant, Miranda is beyond mortified. And even more shocked when the duke returns her note with one of his own that initiates a courtship-by-mail. Insecurity about her lack of suitors shifts into confusion at her growing feelings for two men--one she's never met but whose words deeply resonate with her heart, and one she has come to depend on but whose behavior is more and more suspicious. When it becomes apparent state secrets are at risk and Marlow is right in the thick of the conflict, one thing is certain: Miranda's heart is far from all that's at risk for the Hawthornes and those they love.

An enjoyable read
5 stars By Hayley, May 30 2018
This book is great for historical romance readers. The characters are very likeable and easy to relate to. The scenes are beautifully written. The story contains romance with a surprisingly amount of action, mystery and humour weaved in. It is a great book to reread as well as it is an enjoyable read and has enough detail that the second read gives you more insight into the characters and plot.

Loved It

Yet another sleepless night. But so worth it. I loved all the fun twists and turns. So encouraged that 'a lady should always be herself'. :)

A must-read for Regency fans
4 stars By Marija, Dec 06 2016
I am a long-time Regency fan, and Kristi Ann Hunter has just become my new favourite Regency author. 'A Noble Masquerade' was like a perfect blend of Georgette Heyer and Baroness Orczy, with just a dash of Jane Austen. Lady Miranda is just the kind of character you wish you could meet in real life: a loveably awkward misfit with a unique outlook on life. The plot has enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.
I am looking forward to finding out what happens to all the secondary characters in the sequels.

Brilliant!!!
5 stars By Hannah, Apr 20 2016
This book had me so captivated, I never wanted it to end! It took me twice as long as usual to read the first two chapters since I kept reading bits over and over again, so captivated was I with the way the descriptions and witty dialogue immediately brought the story to life. After all, what is a prim and proper gentlewoman to do when proof that she's not prim and proper in the slightest gets mailed to a complete stranger, who just happens to be a duke - and who may or may not be just in love with her enough from the first letter to want to tease out a few more.

Brilliantly written with characters (and scenes) I instantly fell in love with, I could not more highly recommend this book. Can't wait to read more by this author.
