The world is a very religious place. Wherever you look, people are worshipping, praying, believing, following, even dying for their faith. But are all faiths the same? Do they all call on the same God using different names? Are their beliefs and practices simply cultural expressions of the same spiritual longings? Written in John Dickson's characteristically non-technical and readable style, this book presents each of the world's major religions in its best light, carefully outlining the history, belief systems and spiritual practices of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam so that the interested 'spectator' can explore their similarities and differences. For believers, sceptics and students alike, A Spectator's Guide to World Religions provides a fair and friendly introduction to this ultimate subject.

Bound to lead to good discussion
5 stars By Rory, Oct 26 2016
A very thoughtful and clear book that presents the big ideas of the 5 major world religions. I particularly liked the last chapter which unveiled the superiority that is so often brought by the 'secular' pluralist in the public sphere. Great to inform yourself more of what others believe so to engage them, but also a good one to give away to someone looking into Christianity from a different faith background.

5 stars By Tim, Oct 04 2016
A great book. I really appreciate the way John writes and thinks. He is clever and friendly. He works hard and does well to present each religious worldview on their own terms rather than trying to squeeze them through a Christian worldview. He is good at presenting each religion fairly and respectfully. This is a great book for those interested in what other religions are and say. I think its important for Christians to know what other people think so we can engage with them better. It's also a book that can easily be given to non-Christians as he writes for all people.

Introduction to World Religions
4 stars By Hao, Jul 04 2016
This book doesn't aim to be a technical scholarly volume on religion, but rather aims to present each world religion from its own perspective. Dickson includes helpful dot-point summaries at the end of each chapter, and his style is engaging and readable. He also provides helpful reflection on the diversity of the various religions. A good book for anyone interested in finding out what various religions believe.
