'Albertine' is the sound of Brooke having toured the world over the last few years with her songs, playing shows as far afield as Japan, the USA and UK as well as her newly adopted home of Australia, where she relocated in 2004; it's also the sound of her blossoming love affair with Africa, the album named for an orphan in Rwanda with whom Brooke has a special bond.

2006 saw Brooke camped out in Los Angeles through a Californian summer, recording Albertine at Track Record in North Hollywood. At the controls was producer Marshall Altman, a recording artist and former Columbia Records A&R director who recently hit success producing Marc Broussard. Engineer Joe Zook had gone from working alongside legendary producer Jack Joseph Puig to recording and mixing for everyone from Modest Mouse and Rufus Wainwright to Pink and Tricky. And on the other side of the glass with Brooke was her new studio band, a bunch of good-hearted and super-talented fellows who have played for stars including Jane's Addiction, Gwen Stefani, Alanis Morrisette, Lionel Richie, Jewel, John Mayer, Sarah McLachlan and more.

'Deciphering Me' is the lead single picked from the album and is at radio now. This song has the hallmarks that will see 'Albertine' held up as one remarkable album: it's immaculately crafted pop that is going to stand the test of time for all the right reasons.

2007 Music Manager's View: I really didn't believe that Brooke Fraser could better her first album; then she released ALBERTINE! This latest effort is vocally more powerful, musically more diverse, and lyrically more God-focused than her first album. Please make sure you check this album out - you won't be disappointed! Recommended If You Like: Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, Bethany Dillon, Hillsong United.

I love this album. My favorite song is C.S Lewis Song, the melodies blend beautifully and the words resound with my heart. These songs draw me nearer to God- I would definitely recommend buying this album.

Beautiful
5 stars By Katie, Jun 04 2013
This album is simply beautiful. Brooke Fraser's voice is soulful, haunting, simply stunning. The songs are lovely to listen to, but each one also conveys a story and a message. My favourite on this album are - Faithless, the CS Lewis Song and Shadowfeet.

Whilst the lyrics clearly have a religious undertone and as a Christian this is how I take the meaning, I have noticed on YouTube (for example) that many non-Christians to not identify the songs as being religious. In this sense, this album may make a good gift for a non-Christian who you are trying to reach out to in a non-threatening way.

I would definitely recommend this album - I absolutely love it.

More mellow music for those who do not fancy rock but love an album full of beautiful vocals and enchanting lyrics about love, faith, God, purposes, justice...

"Albertine" by Brooke Fraser is a masterpiece. She is more than a world-class singer, with an exceptionally unique voice. The lyrics are deep and insightful. If you are on the edge, wondering whether to buy or not, I would unreservedly recommend that you get yourself a copy.
