Ok, But Not Great
3 stars By sarah, Oct 16 2015
I jumped at the chance to read this selection of historical fiction novellas as the authors are some of my very favourite. I love novellas for the ease of getting a good story in a short time period and the variety of storylines used.

Although I enjoyed Love Beyond Limits written by Elizabeth Musser, the other novellas were fairly boring reading. I felt some of the language used in the first story by Tamera Alexander to be woefully out of date, with the author referring to a character as 'crippled' due to his walking problems. I wish the author had considered person-first language in regard to this boy, as I found it rather insulting, myself having a disability.
Leaving this issue aside, the plot lines of the other novellas were fairly standard fare. Elizabeth Musser made a good effort at a story with a more unique premise and focus on history. At the close of the story she added a few historical facts allowing the reader to have a more-in-depth grasp of the time period and social setting for the novella. For this reason I rate the book 3 stars, but only because of Elizabeth Musser's story.
