Apostles of Fear: A Church Cult Exposed

Apostles of Fear: A Church Cult Exposed

$29.99

Paperback
A church cult exposed...

^^When a whistle blower acted in the Melbourne branch, shock waves spread through the country. When the ministers and many from a Presbyterian church joined the Brisbane branch the result was explosive.

^^Both events fuelled the church's cruiel and relentless drive for perfection, but the cost has been hundreds of people in broken marriages and divided families.

^^This is the story of a Pentecostal church that emerged in Melbourne in the 1950s and has developed into a nationwide perfectionist cult damaging hundreds of lives. Its cruel and divisive approach to the Christian gospel was highlighted in an ABC Four Corners documentary aired in June 2008.

^^The benign sounding Melbourne Christian Fellowship, Brisbane Christian Fellowship, etc will woo you with their fine music, embrace you into their 'family of families', but then introduce you to their peculiar brand of gnosticism mixed with perfectionism.

^^Leaving may cost you everything

A morbid obsession exposed
1 stars By TTM, Feb 24 2010
This is a genre of our times - and not a pleasant one at that. Add one more to the exposes on Hillsong, the Brethren and whoever else falls foul of a vocal group of former members. Morag Zwartz's book delves back into the history of Melbourne Christian Fellowship - over twenty years ago - and discovers a corrupt leader. That his corruption was outed by the group does nothing to redeem them in Zwartz's view. In fact, their attempts to deal with issues of sin somehow count strongly against them. The book is typical of its kind - littered with random quotations which nobody can check for accuracy, as well as statements from people with an axe to grind. It has the tone of the over-earnest, sensational and slanted journalism that is served up on all channels on a nightly basis. Are these people really that evil? The book also displays its dearth of real subject matter. For example, the 'demolition' of Murray Wylie's 'Jerusalem Passion' lacks perspective and is too pedantic to be credible. This book is a symptom of something that is not at all healthy in Christendom. Let us hope that it and the kind of spirit that pervades it do not become unduly popular.

Essential reading for Australian Christians
4 stars By Barry Fleming, Nov 29 2008
Morag Zwartz has provided Australian Christians with a well researched and insightful analysis into the cultic practices and beliefs of the Melbourne and Brisbane Christian Fellowships.

It becomes quite evident from Morag's research that the root causes of the deception found in this system comes from the teachings of the Latter-Rain-Movement.

The book is not one that you would pick up for a light read on a Sunday afternoon but it is well suited to those who desire to gain an understanding of how abuse, cultic beliefs and practices can creep into the life of some churches.
