Paperback

Beyond the Palm Trees is a book of short stories about real people and events in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. These easy-to-read stories will take you into the heart of remote villages and far flung islands, where custom and culture is so different from what we experience in the western world. These stories are a mixture of sadness and joy; cultural conflicts and strong family bonds; clashes between the old ways and the new.

Finding solutions with limited resources, making do with creativity, and hoping for a better future are not just attributes that those in the western world aspire to. Strength and resilience, alongside human fragility are a prominent feature of all of the people inside these pages. Poignant stories that will touch your heart strings and take you beyond the tourist trail.

Prayerful reading
5 stars By Karen P, Nov 28 2014
Robyn's book shows us a glimpse into the cultural beliefs and practices of people in Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. Some of the events were uplifting whereas others were sad and challenged me to pray more for people in such countries, that they will hear the truth and freedom that's found in Christ, and that every aspect of their precious lives - spiritual, mental, social, physical, and financial - will be transformed. I encourage you to buy this book so that Robyn and her husband can continue to bring this truth and freedom to these people, and so that you can be part of God moving there.

Great stories!
4 stars By Wilma, Oct 03 2014
This easy-to-read compilation of short stories taught me a great deal about our neighbours in the Islands. Many of us have been there for cruise holidays but there is so much more to learn and understand beyond the brief glimpses we have had. Robyn and Russell Harbour have lived and served in the South Pacific for a number of years and these diverse and fascinating stories, some sad and some full of hope, are all based on true events.
