A Must-Read for Every Pastor, Seminary Professor and the Lay Christian!
5 stars By Dr. Bernard Low, Feb 12 2015
This very fine book is written by a highly respected pastor, teacher, leader, author and speaker. Its first section, "The Inner Life of a Leader," contains chapters which address the leader's spiritual centre, soul-cultivation, spiritual growth, faith, motivation, prayerfulness, rest and renewal. The latter section, "The Outer Life of a Leader," has chapters which address how a leader leads in public prayers, pastors his people, faces ugly church situations, says the hard stuff, preaches soul-deep sermons, handles church conflicts, leads the church to grow, invests in and mentors the next generation of leaders, and knows when it's time to leave a ministry for another. Reading this book is like sitting at the feet of an experienced pastor, a spiritual guide, a mentor and someone who knew what it was like to have failed but experienced grace and ministry usefulness once again. I highly commend this book to pastors out there in the deep trenches of pastoral ministry. Seminary professors teaching leadership or pastoral theology should also include this book in their list of required readings for their students. Lay Christians will also read this book with much profit and will learn how they can pray for, support and encourage their pastors. This book is classic MacDonald!
