Meet the Author

Simone Boswell

Simone and James Boswell both grew up in Sydney. Simone completed a Degree in Music education from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and taught for several years in high schools in the Wollongong area. She has been teaching piano and choir for many years, and continues to enjoy doing so.

Simone is very passionate about helping to inspire other mums in looking after their babies. She has held regular mums mornings in her home and in her local church for 12 years. She is frequently invited to speak at other mothers' groups, both community and church groups, and has spoken all over Australia.

Simone and James home school their six children, which makes her days rather busy. She still finds time to answer email questions from all over the world, and to read a good book when she can! Simone enjoys making cards, listening to classical and jazz music and hanging out with the family.

One of my favourite baby books
5 stars By Kaidee, May 26 2015
I really liked this book. It is practical and interesting and it gives some really good advice for the first year or so of your baby's life.
Simone Boswell obviously has a bit of an idea of what she's doing, seeing as though she's had so many of her own children! I found that implementing her ideas did help me to feel more confident about what I was doing, and as a result, I also had a calmer baby.
I tend to give or recommend this book to any woman about to become a mother, it's a good one!

This book is fantastic! When you've just had a baby and you want to implement some kind of routine but your just so overwhelmed... This book is the way to go! It's clear and easy to pick up and flick to the relevant age chapter. I keep this book out all the time.

Practical advice - humorous and easy to read
5 stars By Chloe, Jun 04 2008
On the prowl for helpful parenting books, the title of this one caught my eye as I wanted just that- a calm baby and to be confident as a new mum. With so many parenting books in publication these days it is hard to know where to turn to for good advice. The fact that the author, Simone Boswell, is an Aussie and a Sydneysider was an added bonus as I'm reading something that is culturally relevant and local! She also has six kids of her own so she has plenty of experience to offer. I found the book to be humorous and easy to read and I appreciate the month to month guides for the baby's development as I could easily skip the sections that my baby had passed.

Simone offers practical advice that isn't overbearing like some books and she doesn't make the reader out to be a failure at parenting. She is encouraging and funny and her advise actually works and isn't hard to implement! It is a commonsense book which is great for a new parent who needs some perspective. The spiral binding on the book is a clever ploy as it is less likely to sit on the shelf and more likely to be used while multi-tasking! I was challenged to think about different ways of settling and feeding my baby and spiritually the book looks to God as the source and wisdom in rearing children.

I'd recommend this book to any new parent or to friends of new parents who are looking to give a practical gift. Other books on parenting that are helpful include the Baby Wise series by Gary Ezzo, which takes the reader through the various stages of pregnancy, birth and up to preschool age children.

Sleeping like a baby???
5 stars By Debbie (Wollongong), Nov 01 2007
This is a great book!!! It is like sitting down and having a chat with a friend about your new baby, it really has a ?mum to mum? feel it is full of really good ideas and tips, they are not ones that you put in the ?too hard basket?, but ideas you can easily use in your day to day life with your new baby. I love the way it goes month by month (milestones), making a great resource book to use through your baby first year, just turn to the month you are up to at the time. I actually know the author (not the only reason I am writing a review!!) and she has been a wonderful support to our family through the last five years and three children we have had. She has taken many phone calls from us regarding our babies, as well as calls from mums all over Australia. This book is like having all her great tips right at you fingertips (which is great at 2am in the morning!!) Anyway for the price, it is a great investment. The name really does say it all, you will feel confident in your new role as mother (or father!!) and have a calm baby (most of the time!!) I think it really helps you to thrive, rather than just survive your baby?s first precious year.
