Chasing the Dragon

Until it was pulled down, the Walled City was Hong Kong's most foreboding territory. It was a lawless place, dominated by the Triads, and which the police hesitated to enter. Strangers were unwelcome. Drug smuggling and heroin addiction flourished, as did prostitution and pornography, extortion and fear. When Jackie Pullinger set sail from England in 1966 she had no idea that God was calling her to the Walled City. Yet, as she spoke of Jesus Christ, brutal Triad gangsters were converted, prostitutes quit, and Jackie discovered a new treatment for drug addiction: baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Life Breaking Through Dark Strongholds
5 stars By rapturefish, Oct 24 2014
This true account by Jackie Pullinger about her Spirit-led journey from the UK as a teenager to the darkest part of Hong Kong is a must read. She recounts her initial foray into the Kowloon Walled City, a no-mans land of territory due to a hastily-written agreement between China and the UK, with little success when she encounters people who have a definite 'something', leading her to a life-changing encounter with the Holy Spirit and igniting the inevitable flames of her ministry to the drug addicts, prostitutes and triads of the Walled City.

It has been some time since this has been written, but it is an ongoing story, of which this is just a part. The ministry of Jackie Pullinger continues, even though the Walled City no longer exists and has been pulled down. The people whose lives have been touched by her continue to do the same. I like how Jackie urges us to write our own stories, as if passing the baton to us to run with. If you've ever encountered people who seem beyond help due to drugs, a life of crime or ravaged by prostitution, or you are one, then take heart in these true accounts of people being set free from the darkness - even in a dark place like the city, God can transform lives and crack light through into their hearts. Mesmerising
5 stars By Trudi, Aug 15 2012
Gobsmacking - to trust God blindly into the Walled city without a penny, not even speaking the language, makes you understand, that Christ is not language bond. She never feared for her life, even the cops would not enter the places she went into. This is a must read - Faith living at it's best.
