In this book about pastoral conversation the author draws upon his experience as a passer, counseling and therapist to give both lay and ordained Christians the resources to engage conversation intentionally, deeply and confidently. Purnell suggests that a lack of confidence in ministry has strain because people are not sure just what makes their conversations pastoral. He demonstrates and teaches particular skills in encourage confidence in pastoral leadership. In the early parts of the book, Purnell reflects on the nature of pastoral conversation, naming those things that make conversation pastoral.
