an engaging read
3 stars By Marija, Dec 06 2016
I am generally not interested in 'medical drama' shows or books, but I decided to give this book a go anyway. While it hasn't changed my mind about the genre, I still found it an engaging read. I liked how the different stories of the secondary characters were intertwined into the main story.
I did have one problem with this book: The story often refers to the previous divorce of one of the main characters (which occurred before he became a Christian), but I felt that more could have been made of this opportunity to contrast this with Christian marriage as a sacred commitment before God.

Awesome medical drama
5 stars By Audrey, Apr 24 2014
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Because of my work experience in ER I am very skeptical to read novels that plays out in a medical setting. So many times there is either to much information and no story line or the medical facts are so unrealistic that it is a frustration to read. The author of this book got a right. I felt part of what was happening in the story all the way. The highs and lows of being a trauma nurse, their fears and frustrations. I could relate to them all. Oh and ER politics, never enough nurses... And of course a beautiful story-line. I am thrilled, both thumbs way up!!

Awesome Medical
4 stars By Jessica R. Wakefield, Jun 02 2013
Claire is seriously struggling to get all her ducks in a row after the death of her brother and being shoved into the ER and in the face of Dr Logan Caldwell doesn't help her life plan. But when is God all about our plans? Claire learns as the book goes along that her prayers for healing are being answered - just not the way she wants. She discovers that God's plan for her might be better than the one she's had all along.

Candace Calvert is a new author to me. I've seen her books in the book store, but didn't know whether to buy this one. I did and really enjoyed it. It's fast paced without seeming unrealistic, good character development and the author really develops the relationship her characters have between each other.

Logan and Claire have chemistry and I like the way they interact with each other. Erin Quinn is a really believable character and I can't wait to read her story in the next book in this series (which is fortunately for me - published already!)

I found myself really chuckling in spots and just being adsorbed into this world. A great and engaging read!

Mushy Medicine
4 stars By Margot , Mar 27 2013
It's a while since I've read a good old-fashioned - he's really just too good to be true- romance novel and I really enjoyed this one. Having a medical background myself, I enjoyed the familiar setting of the ER and the medical details were accurate, but not overdone. What I appreciated most is that "Critical Care" is more than just a superficial romance novel - the people involved are facing real issues, and getting closer to God is their real answer. The central figure, Claire, invites God to bless her plan for her life, but, as is so often the case, God has other ideas. Eventually, through many highs and lows, Claire realizes that, surprise! surprise! God's plan is actually the best plan and has achieved far greater results than she could hope for as old, crippling wounds are healed and she moves forward whole. That's a good lesson for all of us to learn.

gripping medical drama
5 stars By melissa, Oct 10 2012
This was a quick read that drew me in from the beginning and kept me up at night wanting to finish it. A medical drama with Christian themes. I also love that each of the stories in this series can be read as a stand alone book. The characters overlap, however you do not have to read them in order.
