Excellent!
5 stars By Cate Russell-Cole: the King David Project, Nov 25 2015
Charles Swindoll is an author with an excellent reputation and for good reason. The study behind his work is well done and he has an easy to absorb writing style. When I was first researching David, this book helped me enormously. It is fair, draws on the work of other notable figures such as Charles Spurgeon and is not an onerous, heavy read. I liked this book so much, his book on the Psalms is one my Christmas list. Highly recommended.

Try the book!
3 stars By Joyce, Oct 22 2014
I bought this so I could catch up with my church leadership team who were journeying through this book, and needed to get through it in a week. I simply didn't have the time to read the book. The content is great (I have since read the book at my own reflective, soaking pace) but I didn't think much of this production. It sounded boring and monotonous, which didn't help me only listening to it while commuting in dense traffic every day. When I picked up the book, it felt like a different work altogether and there were large sections I don't even remember being on this production, but they were there and I zoned out repeatedly. That said, I'm 'known' for having a great memory and being razor sharp with my focus, so that's saying something. Get this if you must, but (and I don't want to sound like "that" person), the book is so much better! Also, the ability to bookmark, highlight and write in the book helped a lot as a book like this takes you to a very deep, personal and reflective place of soul-renovation.

Loads of insight
4 stars By Joyce, Oct 22 2014
Swindoll's mastery of practicalapplicable theology is on display here in a very thorough and honest evaluation of David's life. His writing is evocative of Wiersbe's "Be" series commentaries, with the difference being that this book is a character focus (biography) rather than a commentary on any particular bible book.

There are a myriad of lessons to learn extrapolated from the scripture, all the way from the early days of faithfulness in tending the flock, strength in defending the flock, a child-like humility and relentless trust in God, all the way through a very open exploration of David's weaknesses in adultery, polygamy, murder and trusting in his own 'chariots'. I would heartily recommend this book for anyone wanting to study David's life, the psalms, Kings or just for introspective self-evaluation. The other books in the series must be great too, but I don't know... yet... =P

An insightful read, with great life application
5 stars By Dan, May 24 2013
This book is written in an accessible and yet highly insightful style. It clearly looks at both David's strengths and weaknesses and how we can learn from them in our own lives. This book really impacted me, as I learnt how to avoid David's mistakes and aim for his strengths.
