There is a widespread belief that reason and faith are incompatible and opposed to each other. Faith is viewed as subjective, emotional, a crutch for those who find the real world too hard. Though many of the world's finest minds hold this view, the Bible teaches that it is the fool who says there is no God.

^^Dr. R. C. Sproul clearly and simply argues that at its core Christianity is rational. He focuses on defending the basic truth claims for two of the most crucial issues of apologetics: God's existence and the Bible's authority.

^^In this primer of apologetic thought, Dr. Sproul affirms four logical principles that are necessary for all real discussion and teaches you how to defend your faith in a faithless world. Using the writings of church fathers and philosophers throughout the ages, he uncovers the common ideologies that work against faith.

^^The defense of the faith is not a luxury or an intellectual vanity. It is a task appointed by God that you should be able to give a reason for the hope that is in you as you bear witness before the world

^Sproul's survey of apologetics demonstrates how rational inquiry and empirical research serve to support Christianity's claims rather than undermining them. Now in paperback. ^From the classroom to the mainstream media, Christians regularly find their fundamental beliefs discounted by opponents who consider faith to be incompatible with reason. But in this apologetics primer-now in paperback-respected theologian R. C. Sproul sets forth the core claims of the faith to reveal just how rational Christianity is. ^As Sproul surveys history's streams of thought, he uncovers the common ideologies that work against faith and affirms four principles of knowledge that are necessary for all legitimate discussion. He then demonstrates how reason and scientific inquiry serve as allies in defending two of the most strategic priorities of Christian apologetics: the existence of God and the authority of the Bible. ^Defending the faith is not a luxury but a task appointed by God as Christians

Write Your Own Review
A Eloquent and Rational Case for the Existence of God.
5 stars By Timothy Dragan, Jul 28 2015
Having read this book, Dr. R.C. Sproul has once again made something so complicated, simple. He has fluently made the case and arguments to help rationally defend the existence of an aseity being, following afterwards why this self-existent aseity being is the Christian God. And to do so, he also gives the defence of the Scripture, again in a formal scholarly way, and not simply on a presupposition. I recommend this to anyone who seeks to diligently learn to defend their reason for the faith they have in Him. Let me add, he defines technical philosophical words (etymologically), allowing the reader to understand his case throughout the book; though this is just the beginning of defending the faith. I encourage everyone to read this book; not merely for knowledge but for the command Scripture gives us in 1 Pt. 3:15, to defend out faith!
