- Publisher Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the Lutheran theologian, was born in Germany in 1906 ^and was one of the greatest pioneers of the ecumenical movement. However, ^he is probably best known for his opposition to the Nazis through the ^Confessing Church and for his involvement in a plot to assassinate Hitler. ^Bonhoeffer was arrested in 1943 and executed shortly before the end of ^World War II.^This collection of some of his writings gives a good oversight of ^Bonhoeffer's theology: his struggle with the power of the Church, his ^concern over "costly" grace and discipleship and his Christ-centered ^community. Material is included from the three famous English anthologies ^of Bonhoeffer's writings, "No Rusty Swords", "The Way to Freedom" and ^"True Patriotism".
