^Master of the slow starting epic folk song, Don Francisco proves on this collection that he is a singer/songwriter of some pedigree. Billed as a recording of his most memorable songs, this slightly dated clutch of material (all originating from the late 70s and early 80s), nevertheless possesses the necessary lyrical potency to ensure satisfying and repeated listening. Tracks follow a similar pattern - melodic voice and gentle orchestration build to a rousing finale - but somehow the whole thing is captivating and feels quite fresh all the way through.

Outstanding tracks are the powerful "He s Alive", and the thoughtful "Give Your Heart A Home", but genuinely there are few low points on the whole recording. If it has an Achilles heel it is its lack of suitability to the non-Christian cynic - after all this is classically representative of what Christian music used to be about - but as a relaxing listen for the converted ear this is very close to essential listening.

Meet the Artist

Don Francisco

Singer/songwriter Don Francisco was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1946; the son of a seminary professor, he nevertheless pursued a career as a secular performer until a supernatural experience at the age of 28 convinced him to begin singing the praises of Christ. Issuing his debut LP Brother of the Son in 1976, over the course of subsequent efforts including 1980's Got to Tell Somebody, 1983's Holiness, 1988's High Praise and 1991's Vision of the Valley, Francisco earned renown for story songs like "He's Alive" as well as comforting narratives including "I'll Never Let Go of Your Hand." In 1997, he celebrated 20 years in the ministry by releasing He's Alive, his 12th collection of original material to date; Beautiful to Me was released a year later, and Francisco resurfaced in 1999 with Grace on Grace.
