This book was introduced to me while I was just newly became a Christian by a very dear friend of mine. He was a very devoted Christian. This book has greatly encouraged me as a new Christian. It's very easy to read and also paint a great picture od who God is. As the bible says God is always longing for His people to draw to Him, as we draw near o Him He will floral near to you! God is faithful and always will be. Hope you ll enjoy reading it and be blessed by this book.
Drawing Near is the book for you if you are struggling to grasp the true meaning of having a relationship with our Father God and if you are very interested to learn more about the Holy Spirit. In the first half of the book, John gives and explains examples from the bible of the deep intimacy between man and God, such as Moses. In the second half of the book, John thoroughly teaches about the Holy Spirit and how crucial and beautiful it is for Christians to have this deep intimate fellowship and relationship with the Holy Spirit! The main theme focuses on the lovely bible verse from James 4:8 - Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. I truly recommend this book to anyone who longs to have a serious and deep relationship with our Father in heaven :) This book blessed me a lot and I hope it will bless anyone who reads it too :)
The first half of this book focuses on God's desire to be in relationship with us. This part is good for those that have no motivation to pray, etc. The second half of the book, however, is a bit off. Bevere seems to twist Bible passages to suit his purpose, and uses different translations of the Bible to suit his purposes. It seems as if Bevere reads a lot of his own meaning into certain passages and doctrine, placing more emphasis on experience than on the Bible. The reader of this book must have knowledge of the Bible and hermeneutics before reading this book. I imagine people may believe some of these misinterpretations. This is the last book by John Bevere that I will be reading. I have read four of his books, and had enough. Bevere is a good author if you need to be provoked, but not a good author if you are seeking sound Biblical teaching!
