Most Christians already know that they should be telling their friends about Jesus. But they have been poorly equipped with methods that are no longer effective in today's post-Christian world. As a result, many people become frustrated, blame themselves, and simply give up. Evangelism in a Skeptical World is a textbook on evangelism that is ideal for the church or the classroom to equip Christians with the principles and skills they need to tell the unbelievable news about Jesus to friends in a skeptical world.

Many of the older principles and methods of evangelism in the twentieth century no longer work effectively today. In a post-Christian, post-churched, post-reached world we need new methods to communicate the timeless message of the gospel in culturally relevant ways. Dr. Chan combines the theological and biblical insights of classic evangelistic training with the latest insights from missiology on contextualization, cultural hermeneutics, and storytelling. Every chapter is illustrated with real-world examples drawn from over fifteen years of evangelistic ministry. These are methods that really work - with university students, urban workers, and high school students - getting past the defensive posture that people have toward Christianity so they can seriously consider the claims of Jesus Christ.

Field-tested and filled with unique, fresh, and creative insights, this book will equip you to share the gospel in today's world and help as many people as possible hear the good news about Jesus.

Highly Recommended Reading
5 stars By Dom, Aug 03 2018
Chan's book certainly serves as a helpful tool for Christians in the Western world. Well thought out and argued, Chan provides nuanced and tried suggestions to better engage the gospel with a sceptical audience. I read this book myself and then used the video series as a basis of training and bible studies at church - Chan's ideas were the basis of great group discussion because of the different yet accessible insights it provided. While some aspects were more intellectual than your typical popular book about evangelism, Chan scatters illustrations and stories throughout to explain different theories and explain any cultural engagement he has experienced and studied.

On the whole, I am very thankful for this resource and recommend it highly to all Christians wishing to be better equipped evangelists.

"Go to" book for evangelism
5 stars By KKay, Apr 04 2018
The strength of this book is that it offers both excellent theory and practice. The book starts with the biblical and theological basis for what our "good news" about Jesus is. This very thoughtful theory is followed by a huge amount of information on the best ways to deliver the gospel of Jesus in this day and age.
There are tips for personal sharing with family and friends in our homes and then tips for doing talks to a mixed audience which will suit both the public speakers and quiet conversationalists in Christ's body.
The a-ha moments in this book came for me with a helpful analysis of the different eras of "Modern" and "Post modern". I was prompted to think of new ways to speak to my angry post modern friends who are resistant to apologetics, tracts or crusades that used to work in the "modern" era. This book is both a reference and "How to" book which I will read again. We have such great news to share about Jesus, its great to have a thoughtful book that helps us do it well! Highly recommended.

Pure gold for those who want to communicate the best news in the universe to the disinterested
5 stars By Christine Dillon, Mar 20 2018
This book is gold. It is possible to read it straight through but its strength is that it is a book to go back into and dip in to the relevant section. For example, if someone asks you to speak at a wedding or special events - chapters eight and nine would make your task far easier and give you an understanding of what you're trying to achieve and why.
Many of the topics in this book, I've learned about through experience (making mistakes and trial and error). How I would have loved to have read this book years ago. Chan's strength is his ability to analyse and explain why our talking is failing to actually communicate.
Chapter 4 on 'Evangelism to Postmoderns' - a favourite chapter. So clear with many 'aha' moments.
Full of illustrations. Full of stories.
This book is for anyone trying to communicate the best news in the universe to those who don't think so!
