In this first audiobook of a three-book series, author Vannetta Chapman brings a fresh twist to the popular Amish fiction genre. She blends the familiar components consumers love in Amish books--faith, community, simplicity, family--with an innovative who-done-it plot that keeps listeners guessing right up to the last stitch in the quilt.

When two women--one Amish, one English--each with different motives, join forces to organize a successful on-line quilt auction, neither expects nor wants a friendship. As different as night and day, Deborah and Callie are uneasy partners who simply want to make the best of a temporary situation. But a murder, a surprising prime suspect, a stubborn detective, and the town's reaction throw the two women together, and they form an unlikely alliance to solve a mystery and catch a killer.

Set in the well-known Amish community of Shipshewana, Falling to Pieces will attract both devoted fans of the rapidly-growing Amish fiction genre, as well as those who are captivated by the Amish way of life.

An Immersing Read
3 stars By sarah, Apr 01 2014
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in Vanetta's series. I gave it three stars because despite its interesting storyline, I felt it was rather too long and needed some editing to keep the flow of the story just right for the reader. I enjoyed the friendships between the main English character and the Amish women in the community. The book centres around a murder mystery set in a small town and how an Amish woman and a newly arrived outsider work together to solve it. Despite the fact it is a murder mystery, it is not gruesome in content and lightly skips over the 'death' factor. Definetly a 'who dunnit' type of book.

Enjoyable New Mystery Series
4 stars By Iola, Feb 11 2012
Three young Amish mothers, Deborah, Esther and Melinda, have been friends and quilting partners for years. With the death of Esther's husband and the rare illness of Melinda's son placing financial pressure on them, they sew traditional quilts to sell to tourists in Daisy's Quilt Shop. But when Daisy dies and her niece Callie inherits the shop, they have to persuade her to reopen the shop. Callie is hiding her own hurts, having lost a child and her husband. The plot is typical for the genre – most scenes are from the point of view of either Callie or Deborah, with the occasional scene from the murderer’s viewpoint. There were the potential suspects, the requisite red herrings, the surprise at the end when the culprit is revealed, and a potential touch of romance for Callie. All in all, Falling to Pieces is a very satisfying read.
