Meet the Author

Jen Anderson

Jen Anderson is a Christian wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, employeeand now author. The daughter of an alcoholic, she knew what it was to experience fear. When she was only 11 years old her Dad left home, and her fear changed to what it was going to be like to grow up without a father. Two years later her life changed when at Teen Ranch she gave her life to the Lord. This young faith grew and flourished over the next 25 years and has seen her through the many challenges of this life. Children's ministry is her passion and she loves to talk to children about Jesus, faith, and trust in God. She is an active member of Menai Anglican Church. Her favourite pastime is being with her family and enjoying her two girls, Courtney (11) and Katelyn (8).

Says Jen: "As a parent, Scripture and Sunday School Teacher, I have found many adults believe that children are too little to develop a concrete understanding of what it means to be saved and live a Christian life. However, I practically found the opposite to be the case when teaching kids and helping them to both accept Jesus and share Him with other children. I have found that often we can look upon our children's faith from our own experience, especially if we are saved later in life. However, both of my girls made a decision to follow Christ at the ages of 4 and 6 years and to my delight are working at following Him, living a godly life and evangelizing other children. It is this journey and reflections on my childhood that prompted me to look at developing this series of fun and interactive stories that helps build godly character and win kids for Christ."

Jen's website is www.francythefirefly.com and she attends churches regularly to discuss fear, her story, and how the God we love is greater than all of our fears.

Beautiful illustration and story - great Christmas present
5 stars By Tim, Nov 21 2008
This really is a beautiful little story. The illustrations are bright and full of emotion and that gets the reader (eg children) into the story. My children really related to Francy (the Firefly character) almost instantly. They really liked her; because she is bright, colourful and bouncy but also a bit unsure of herself, just like many children.

I do not want to give too much away about the story, but basically a mean seagull chases little Francy and almost captures her, but Francy gets away. She then meets a bee called Byron who is wise and godly. Byron uses the story of David and Goliath to teach Francy that "God is greater than all her fears". Byron says at one stage to Francy " did you really trust God to look after you?" My 9 year old, said "you know what Dad I do that sometimes, I need to trust God more"

Music to a Christian Fathers ears! It is a great book all round, beautiful illustrations, engaging story and above all, biblical truths explained in ways children understand. To top it off the Author and Illustrator are Australian from Menai in Sydney!

For those who want to give a child a book with meaning this Christmas, especially a child who is timid or fearful, then you must buy this book. Hope your kids love it as much as mine do.

Lovely children's book
4 stars By Rachael, Nov 09 2008
Francy the Fearful Firefly is a beautiful book for children of all ages, but particularly for those in lower primary. It has wonderfully illustrated characters on brightly coloured pages, remaining simple but effective. Francy the Firefly captures the imagination, providing children with the opportunity to wonder what fireflies would say if we could hear them. The honest dialogue Francy shares with Byron, and the humour Slimey the Seagull adds to the equation, makes Francy a delight to read. The use of a bible story, within Francy's story, illustrates God's truth when feeling afraid, and shows that we can learn to trust God through his word. I particularly love the David and Goliath illustrations. Francy is a lovely way to approach the issue of fear with your children.

Looking forward to the next one Jen!
