Great Introduction
5 stars By Eric, Apr 03 2017
Biblical Greek - two words that conjure up mixed emotions in every Christian. Every Christian eventually gets to the point in their bible study where they want to know what the Greek says behind the translation but the prospect of learning the language seems daunting. Mounce' Greek for the a Rest of Us is a great introduction to biblical Greek that spends 50% of the time explaining the background and translation choices of different bibles and the other 50% giving readers an introduction into biblical Greek without overwhelming them. As you go through the book - which is designed as a weekly study - you'll pick up the alphabet and knowledge of some tenses whilst also penciling in your own translation of simple verses in which a translation is already provided in case you get stuck. If you only buy one book on biblical Greek this should be the one you buy. If you don't make it through the book then you haven't wasted hundreds of dollars on sophisticated grammars and flash cards whereas if you do make it through the book, chances are you'll go on to buy Basics of Biblical Greek which is the defacto standard textbook for students of the language and aimed at students who have a familiarity of Greek either from finishing Greek for the Rest of Us or completing an introductory course. Highly recommended, not many books are this user friendly.
