Heresies Understood!
4 stars By Shelly, Jan 23 2013
I love the Armchair Theologian series, which gives laypeople like myself a better understanding of people, issues and times of church history without making us feel overwhelmed. Gonzalez is a noted church historian, and his explanations of the heresies that beset the early church made for both interesting reading and a greater understanding of each group. Particularly helpful was his chapter on the Gnostics, which I have always found confusing until now. Ron Hill's illustrations serve to add some humour, though I find I balk a little at the illustration of God the Father as an elderly man. A great and fast read.
