In the remote hills of Guatemala, hope is not a familiar word. Rodrigo, Kristal, and Javier live in a one-room shanty with dirt floors, bamboo walls, and a rusty tin roof that leaks. At twelve, Rodrigo dreams of going to school but must work in the fields every day to help the family make a meager living. By striking a deal with his sick Mam, Rodrigo goes to school but when tragedy strikes the family, Rodrigo's dreams are suddenly shattered.
Meanwhile, a mission team from the US travels to Guatemala to build houses. Next door to their shanty, Rodrigo, Kristal, and Javier watch as volunteers hammer every nail and cut each board, delivering hope to another family. Meet the Author
Angie Hatch lives in Alabama with her husband and favorite building buddy, Jerry, and their kids. They have been married since 1994 and have four children, ages 26, 19, 18, and 13. All have been on mission trips to Guatemala for Casas por Cristo except the youngest, who is going for her first time this summer. Angie is active in missions with her church and believes everyone should step out of the comforts of home and travel to a place where such comforts are not taken for granted so we can see how truly blessed we are.
