Meet the Author

John Burgess (Ed)

The Rev. Dr. John P. Burgess (Ph.D., University of Chicago ) is the James Henry Snowden professor of systematic theology. Burgess has taught at Pittsburgh Seminary since 1998 and was previously a member of the Office of Theology and Worship in the denominational offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Burgess draws extensively from the Reformed tradition in his work, and is deeply committed to theological reflection in service of the church. His publications include an edited collection, In Whose Image? Faith, Science and the New Genetics (WJK 1998), and books on Why Scripture Matters: Reading the Bible in a Time of Church Crisis (WJK 1998) and After Baptism: Shaping the Christian Life (WJK 2005).
