So who is this man, named by Time magazine in 2005 as one of the 100 most influential people in the world?

^^His life could have been so different. Born to privilege, John Stott focused instead on service to God and other people. ^^He didn't...

^^He became Rector of All Souls Church, Langham Place, London in 1950 at the age of twenty-nine, and Chaplain to the Queen in 1959. He chaired the National Evangelical Anglican Congress in 1967 and 1977, shaped the Lausanne Covenant, pioneered the London Lectures, and founded both Langham Partnership International and London Institute for Contemporary Christianity. He became known internationally for his writing and preaching, and bird-watching. He led fifty university missions worldwide.

Fantastic Read
5 stars By Matt Kelly, Dec 27 2009
A fantastic read about the life of one of the giants of the 20th century. This book may be a little short for such a full life, and the book by Timothy Dudley-Smith might be better for someone wanting much more depth, but this book is still over 280 pages long so you get a close look at the important parts of John's life. I would have loved to see more information on what his thoughts were while he was writing more of his books, though good space is given to 'Basic Christianity' and 'The Cross of Christ.'

I did very much enjoy the more balanced look at the Stott/Lloyd-Jones controversy and highlighted the face that bitterness was not kept between them. In other biographies from people involved (Packer, Lloyd-Jones) they tended to side with one person over the other and demonize one view over the other. This is the first balanced look at this even in the lives of John Stott & Martyn Lloyd-Jones, two of my heroes of the Christian faith.

As John Stott informed his biographers, both Roger Steer & Timothy Dudley-Smith, he wanted to be presented 'warts & all' and this book shows all the different aspects of his ministry and life and leaves you wanting to be more involved in social action without loss of doctrine or evangelism.
