My wife, Claire, loved Amanda Deed's "Ellenvale Gold" Now she's pestering me to get her the other two volumes in the series. Ah well, her birthday's coming and Mother's Day and family members now know the need.

Repeat sales are the sure sign of a book enjoyed. Well written, Amanda.

The book looks good too.

After reading Amanda Deed's 'The Game' I could not wait to read Ellenvale Gold Though it was a great read it wasn't the nostalgic magnificence that The Game was

Thoughts while reading
Do you consider yourself above or below others? Throughout Ellenvale Gold a major theme is class or where you stand in society Back in the 1850s those with higher a status never thanked their servants and basically treated all convicts like dirt While reading I thought back to my own upbringing and I did have thoughts of being better than others how wrong I was We are all equal in God's eyes

The strong Christian themes in Ellenvale Gold reminded me to take the big decisions to God and not try to work everything out myself

Ellenvale Gold is the first in the Jackson Creek series Amanda has set the scene beautifully for the next book

Gold Rush romance and drama.

Ellenvale Gold. Amanda Deed.

Ellenvale Gold is a story set in the gold rush days near Sunbury, Victoria. Come wipe the sweat from your brow and sit and have a cuppa with Penny and Gus. Get to know them in their trials of trust, disaster, and double crossing. Come lend them a hand as they face the plumb hard work of taming Australia in the heydays of a gold rush.

I found Gus a lovable bloke, rough as a nugget and just as valuable. It was interesting watching Penny grow, not only as a new Christian, but as a person from a selfish station owner to a self assured young lady who could admit her mistakes and move forward.

Reading the conversion of Penny, I appreciate how God doesn’t change; he is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. A person’s journey to faith in Jesus is just as special in the 1800’s as it is today.

I loved the scenery, and the descriptions of the roads and countryside at that time in 1850’s history. Makes me so much more appreciative of what we have now to drive on and drive in.

Australian history brought to life
5 stars By Ausjenny, Jan 21 2012
I bought it for a Christmas present for myself and now understand why people love this book so much. I was up til early morning finishing the book as I just couldn't put it down. This book is set in the months preceding the uprising and we hear some of the facts in the story. I have always been interested in this era especially visiting Ballarat and seeing the site of the Eureka Stockade. This book is set in the months preceding the uprising and we hear some of the facts in the story.
The book is about Penelope who is now basically alone after the death of her stockman with a sheep station to run. She finds herself needing help from a Gus a stranger who turns up on her property. AT the same time the neighbouring station’s son Rupert is showing her interest. We see how back in these times class was very much a factor and how hard it is for Penelope to see Gus as an equal. There are several incidents that happen which lead Penelope questioning herself and what she thinks is right. There were times I wanted to knock some sense into Penelope but at the same time I understand why she was like she was. I did grew to love her by the end of the book. This book deals with second chances, forgiveness, acceptance and questions ones thinking. A very good read.
