Wayne Cordeiro found himself paralyzed by burnout. He had been in ministry for 30 years, and 10 years after founding what is now the largest church in Hawaii, he found himself depleted. Wayne took a season out of his growing ministry to recharge and refocus on the truly important. He was able to get back in touch with his life, get back in proper balance, and re-energize his spirit through Christ in a way that propelled him forward to greater levels of service. Wayne first gave this message at a Willow Creek Leadership Summit, where it was the highest-rated presentation by those in attendance. Pulling no punches, Wayne talks about the walls leaders must break through and how to move on with integrity. Included are ways to care for oneself physically and emotionally as well as spiritually.

This Book is a Must-Read for All Leaders
5 stars By Dr. Bernard Low, May 07 2015
This is a book I wished I had read years earlier. Any Christian leader who has experienced burnout, who knows what it is to lead on empty, with a depleted tank and reduced passion, will be able to identify with Wayne Cordeiro's experiences. Leading at a fast pace, packed schedule, without regular rest and renewal, and under high expectations both from others and yourself, any leader will face the risk of suffering from burnout which is often the body's and God's way of saying we need rest, refreshment and renewal. Burnout is closely associated with depression and, based on his experience, Wayne Cordeiro very helpfully identifies for the reader the causes and early warning signs of depression. He also shares with the reader what can be done to recover from or prevent burnout: scheduled times of regular rest, solitude and sabbaticals, regular physical exercise, eating healthily, enjoying one's family (who will ultimately be there for you!), and daily hearing and learning from the Divine Mentor amongst other things. All these require that one lives what Cordeiro calls the intentional life which allows God to renew and reenergize us in a way that will help us to release greater leadership energy for higher levels of service. This book is highly recommended and is a must-read for all leaders who want to go for the long haul to finish well and finish strong and leave behind a godly legacy.
